Gustirna jar

| /

A gustirna is the stone well where rainwater was collected beside old Dalmatian houses, and this jar carries its name. The body has a rough, stony texture, which I make with pebbles from Hvar's beaches, and the tall, rounded lid is carved with a pattern of lines resembling the famous Hvar well that has stood for centuries on the market square in front of the cathedral. For centuries it was the only source of water for the whole town. Keep herbs, sugar or sea salt in it, or leave it as a decorative piece. Have a look at the Suhozid jar too.

I make it from sturdy stoneware on the potter's wheel, decorate it in the sgraffito technique and finally glaze it with a clear, food-safe glaze.

  • Height: approx. 10 cm without lid / 14 cm with lid
  • Width: approx. 10 cm
  • Care: dishwasher safe, though I still recommend washing it by hand
  • One of a kind: the texture is made with pebbles from Hvar's beaches, so every jar is different
