Waves oil bottle

Waves is the Adriatic on a windy day. The lower half of the bottle is glazed in bright turquoise, and into it I have carved the crests of waves in playful cream lines, filled with short dotted strokes, like drops of seawater in the sun; the upper half stays simple and light, like a sun-drenched shore. It pours olive oil straight onto bread or a summer salad. If you prefer a calmer, darker sea, have a look at the Deep Blue oil bottle.

I make the bottle from stoneware on my potter's wheel in Split, and carve the waves through the coloured clay in the sgraffito technique. The whole bottle is covered in a clear, food-safe glaze.
